I am very pleased to announce that I have invited The Revd Canon Julie Conalty to be the next Archdeacon of Tonbridge. Julie is at present Vicar of Christ Church Erith and Area Dean of Erith. She is also my Adviser for the Ministry of Ordained Women and is one of our diocesan representatives on General Synod. Her new appointment was announced in her parish yesterday.
In discerning God’s calling for Julie’s appointment to this post, I was greatly assisted by an Advisory Group chaired by Philip French, Lay Chair of our Diocesan Synod; also involved were our two continuing archdeacons and the Archdeacon of Maidstone in his capacity as regional representative of the Archdeacons’ Forum. I am very grateful to all who were involved for their careful and prayerful engagement.
Julie has been in Erith since 2012; before that she served in the Diocese of Southwark in stipendiary and self-supporting ministry, in both parish and chaplaincy settings. Before and alongside ordained ministry, Julie worked in a range of settings in public bodies and private consultancy with a particular focus on probation, resettlement, employment and youth services. A theme running through much of her work has been establishing and working in multi-agency settings.
The intention is for Julie to take up her new responsibilities towards the end of September. Further details will follow in due course. In the meantime, please hold Julie and her family in your prayers as they approach a period of transition. Please also continue to remember Clive and Jane Mansell as they prepare for their farewell and move to Yorkshire.
